Romelu Lukaku makes fitness admission when looking back on Manchester United career

Romelu Lukaku has revealed Inter Milan spotted an issue with his digestive system soon after he completed a transfer from Manchester United.

Lukaku, in an interview with ESPN, revealed that Inter's nutritionists spotted an irregularity that has now been sorted and resulted in his losing 10 pounds in the space of 12 days shortly after he'd joined the Italian club.

The former United striker came under fire for his fitness and professionalism towards the end of last season, with Gary Neville particularly critical.

Lukaku has since hit back, instructing Neville to "never question my professionalism" and has hit ground running for Inter under Antonio Conte. After a number of goals in pre-season after the deadline day move from United, the Belgian has hit two in two in Serie A this season — and one for Belgium in their Euro 2020 qualifying win over Scotland.

"Normally I have a fine digestive system," Lukaku said while making the revelation.

"I digest everything very quickly. That's how it had been my entire life. But what the nutritionist said to me was, it had stopped working.

"I'm good now. My body is in the zone."

Lukaku reiterated his desire to succeed under Conte, who had targeted him for Chelsea when the 26-year-old was playing for Everton.

"I thought it was done, it wasn't," said Lukaku on that failed transfer, which happened just before he was signed by Jose Mourinho for United.

He was keen to push through a union with Conte this summer and United finally sanctioned a deal worth around £74million, just less than they'd paid for him in that 2017 summer.

"There's the love I have for this area," Lukaku added. "The love that I have for Inter. And it was the perfect moment for me to leave England. I didn't want to be there anymore."
