Romelu Lukaku: Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte claims £59m 'wasn't even that much' for former Manchester United striker

Antonio Conte claims Romelu Lukaku’s £59 million (€65m) price is “not even that much” after the former Manchester United striker scored on his Inter Milan debut.

The Belgian left on bad terms at Old Trafford, having fallen out with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after last season.

And following protracted talks, the Nerazzurri eventually found a compromise with United, handing Conte his striker of choice as he returns to management at the San Siro.

Conte’s side strolled to victory in their Serie A opener on Monday, with goals from Lukaku, Marcelo Brozovic, Stefano Sensi and Antonio Candreva, but it was the club record signing that delighted the former Chelsea boss most.

“I am very happy and satisfied. I like working with these guys who have always shown great willingness,” said Conte.

“Tonight, Lukaku showed why we tried so hard to sign him.

“Lukaku has come into the Inter world in the best possible way, with great humility.

“He is a gentle giant, a giant with a smile. He’s ready to work for the team.

“Let’s not forget Lukaku cost €65m to be paid over five years, so when people talk about big money spent, it wasn’t even that much.”
