Romelu Lukaku hits out at Man Utd - claiming he was made a scapegoat for last season

Romelu Lukaku has hit out at Manchester United again, claiming he was “scapegoated” for last season’s failures.

Lukaku has relaunched his career with Inter Milan and is still sore at how he feels he was blamed unfairly for everything that went wrong at United during the previous campaign.

United missed out on silverware for a second successive season - and the Champions League - trailing home a huge 32 points behind champions Manchester City .

Lukaku, 26, feels he has made a scapegoat and says his treatment by United is in contrast to the love he has felt at Inter since his £74million switch.

“Scapegoated, meaning ‘you are the reason’,” he said.

“This could be the team I need. There’s the love I have for this area. The love that I have for Inter. And it was the perfect moment for me to leave England. I didn’t want to be there anymore.”

Lukaku was branded “unprofessional” for putting on over a stone in weight by United great Gary Neville and the Belgium striker is angry no-one at the club understood he had a gastrointestinal problem.

Inter’s medical staff spotted is straight away and changed his diet to help him become lean again.

“Normally I have a fine digestive system,” said told ESPN FC . “I digest everything very quickly.

“That’s how it had been my entire life. But what the nutritionist said to me was, it had stopped working. I’m good now. My body is in the zone.”

After eight years in England, Lukaku feels he is at the right club in Inter to realise his dream of winning silverware.

He is also excited to be working finally with Antonio Conte after coming so close to signing for him before.

“This group of players we have here is a special group,” he said. “And we have the right leader in front of us to take us to the right places.

“Inter is an ambitious club. It wants to get back where it needs to be. I want to help them build something here. It’s the right move for me.”
