Romelu Lukaku hits back at Gary Neville and weight critics with simple declaration

Romelu Lukaku has fired back at his critics amid criticism of his weight, amid suggestions he could miss the start of the Italian season next weekend.

Lukaku completed a move from Manchester United to Inter Milan earlier this month, finally linking up with ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.

The Premier League club announced the Belgium striker’s departure two years after signing from Everton for £75million.

On the back of his move being completed, Gary Neville suggested United had made the right decision to sell Lukaku - who had found the net 42 times in 96 games for the Red Devils - branding him 'unprofessional' and 'overweight'.

Neville tweeted: "He admitted he was overweight! He is over 100kg! He’s a Manchester United player!

"He will score goals and do well at Inter Milan but unprofessionalism is contagious."

Neville wasn't the only former United player to take aim, with Gary Pallister also stating: "He's too heavy.

"You look at the pace in the present game; maybe Ole is looking at that and saying he can’t implement that into his game for me. He was surplus to requirements."

And on Saturday Corriere dello Sport wrote that he might not be ready to start the Serie A season because he is overweight.

They claimed Inter medical staff will not play him at 104kg, wanting him instead to limit himself to 100kg.

But now, Belgium's all-time record goalscorer has fired back.

Taking to Instagram , Lukaku made his point, posting a snap of himself and stating matter-of-factly: "Not bad for a fat boy."

The Nerazzurri kick off their campaign against newly-promoted Lecce on Monday August 26.

Conte's men are being tipped as the biggest contenders to Juventus ' crown this term, with Lukaku set to lead the attack, with Mauro Icardi having been frozen out.

Conte's fabled pre-season sessions have certainly hit Lukaku hard, with him admitting recently: “It’s hard, man. It’s different. In England, it’s a lot of work, but here it’s real work!”

“The city is nice, but I didn’t come here to live, I came here to help the team achieve something.”
