Romelu Lukaku gives injury update to excite Chelsea fans ahead of Burnley clash

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has posted a shock injury update that has excited Blues fans ahead of a potential - but unlikely - early comeback against Burnley in the Premier League this weekend.

Lukaku, 28, suffered an ankle injury in the 4-0 triumph on Malmo in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge a couple of weeks ago.

It was being reported that the club-record signing wouldn't return to training until after the upcoming international break, but it looks like the Red Devils marksmen has made a quicker recovery ahead of Friday training.

He tweeted his update: 'Running today let’s see how that goes [followed by a battery emoji].

The Blues take on Sean Dyche's Burnley outfit at Stamford Bridge this weekend and a fresh update regarding the striker's availability for this game and other upcoming fixtures is expected when Thomas Tuchel speaks to the media.

As it stands, it's seems unlikely that we will see the 28-year-old feature in any capacity with the German manager being naturally wary of not wanting to rush the £97.5million back.

Goals have not been a major worry in Lukaku's absence for the European Champions, who have netted 12 goals so far in the four games that followed the Malmo home tie- a fixture in which both the Belgian striker and Timo Werner sustained unfortunate injuries in the first half.

Ahead of the pair's return to action, manager Tuchel has admitted that he wants to see more from both as he wants to get to a stage whereby he can rely on the duo to provide the goods on a weekly basis.

In his pre-Malmo press conference, Tuchel outlined his challenge for the attacking pair on their return: "Normally what any manager does in any team is to not only rely on one or two goalscorers but at the same time you wish to rely on one or two consistent goalscorers because it gives you also a lift.

"This is also necessary to reach the highest level in any competition, you need consistent goalscoring threat from your strikers."
