Romelu Lukaku drops Man Utd transfer hint with Antonio Conte admission

Romelu Lukaku has admitted for the first time he is interested in joining Antonio Conte - “the best manager in the world” - at Inter Milan.

Manchester United are ready to sell the Belgian striker if they receive an offer of around £80million.

Conte was beaten to 26-year-old Lukaku as Chelsea boss two years ago but now wants him to spearhead a Serie A title challenge in his new-look Inter attack.

Lukaku, who scored a total of 42 goals in 96 appearances for United, said: “It’s good to see Conte has joined Inter. For me he is the best manager in the world.

“I’ve already taken a decision about the future but I can’t reveal it because I have a contract with Manchester United and because I respect the club.

"I am a big Serie A fan, those close to me know that I have always wanted to play in the English league and in the Italian one, I love Italy.

"And then Cristiano Ronaldo arrived, Sarri will go to Juventus , Ancelotti is at Napoli, it will be an exciting Serie A.

"The club and my agent will talk about it but I have already made my decision.”

Lukaku has complained of being unappreciated as a United player. He is now ready to cut his losses in the knowledge that he is not likely to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice striker next season. It is believed the Reds boss prefers Marcus Rashford.

Conte believed he had landed Lukaku from Everton two years ago but he instead opted for a £75m move to Old Trafford.

The frontman now believes Conte, Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus and the impeding arrival of Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri at the Italian champions makes Serie A the place to be.

He said: “Conte knows what I think about him.

“You know I’m not somebody who likes to talk about my personal relationship with managers, but I’m a Manchester United player.

“If something happens, you know, I think the teams and my agents have to do the talking.”
