Romans and gladiators are coming to Duncarron Medieval Village this April

Fancy a trip to the ancient past, when Roman legionaries marched in Scotland and gladiator contests were the equivalent of the SPFL?

A new, immersive "Romans and gladiators" experience is coming to a historic recreation village in the Carron Valley.

Duncarron Medieval Village is a painstakingly accurate version of a 12th Century Scottish fortified village, which had its grand opening last year.

It's going even further back in time to the classical period this April, when the Pictish tribes encountered Europe's mightiest empire.

Visitors will be able to learn more about what life was like for the Picts and the legionaries from live actors, as well as pick up some "military training" themselves.

Organisers say: "A strange new race has arrived at the gates of Duncarron, under a banner of peace and friendship. The Picts have invited them into their homes.

"Before the times of war and conquest, the Romans and Pictish tribes lived in relative peace. Is that about to change?!

"Why not join us and see for yourselves? Come and see what life was like for these two 'tribes.'

"Learn a new skill or trade Pick up some military training from the Roman professionals. How's your hunting and tracking skills?"

The event runs between 17 and 19 April and you can book tickets here.
