Romanian pair arrested at Dublin Airport as part of Crime Group investigation into worldwide fraud

A Romanian man and woman have been arrested at Dublin Airport as part of an investigation into a Crime Group involved in worldwide fraud.

The 34-year-old male was arrested by the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation following a European Arrest Warrant.

As well as this, a 22-year-old woman was arrested for theft and fraud offences.

The operation targeted a Romanian Organised Crime Group involved in Cyber Enabled Frauds Worldwide.

This includes invoice re-directing, phishing, vishing and money laundering in Ireland.

A sum of money, a number of debit credits obtained through the opening of bank accounts using false identities, encrypted phones and a laptop were seized.

The female is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Ballymun Garda Station.

The man is expected to appear in the High Court later today on foot of the EAW.
