Romania vs Northern Ireland: Steven Davis says Ianis Hagi hasn't got shirty with him yet at Ibrox

Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis has laughed off suggestions Rangers teammate Ianis Hagi has asked for the shirt off his back at Ibrox.

Hagi’s legendary father Gheorghe, who won 124 Romanian caps and played for Barcelona and Real Madrid, wore the No10 shirt with distinction for his country.

Davis is the current owner of the No10 jersey at Rangers and chuckled yesterday when Romanian reporters asked if Hagi, who wears No7 for the Light Blues, had asked him for the iconic number.

“He hasn’t asked yet so I don’t think it’s a problem for him, although I understand the connection of the number 10 with his dad,” said Davis.

“He’s very happy and settled in Glasgow and is an important part of the team, but no he hasn’t asked for the number yet.”

Hagi, who joined Rangers on a permanent deal for £4m from Genk in May, is set to win his 11th cap in tonight’s Nations League clash at the National Arena.

Davis said: “I’m looking forward to seeing Ianis. He’s obviously a young player with a lot of potential and a lot of quality.

“I’m aware of the attributes he will bring to the game and he is going to be a dangerous player for Romania.”
