History-lovers will get a chance to experience what life was like in ancient Roman times during a weekend of fun family activities in East Lothian.

A "Roman encampment" is being set up in at the Haugh in Haddington this weekend, August 31 and September 1.

East Lothian Council's Museum's service  has organised the event, which will feature the Roman reenactment group Comitatus.

They will re-create cavalry charges and teach visitors about deadly weapons like the ballista - a large catapult used to hurl stones.

Other activities include face-painting, story-telling and have-a-go archery, as well as food and drink on site.

The event is kicking off East Lothian's local history fortnight.

The Roman encampment is open between 10am and 4pm each day. and entry is free, though some activities may have a charge.
