Roman Salanoa passed fit in boost to Munster's patched-up Champions Cup preparations

Munster have received a timely boost with the news that Roman Salanoa is back in training ahead of Sunday's Heineken Champions Cup clash at Wasps.

The Reds need all the fit props they can get following their Covid troubles in South Africa, where 14 members of their travelling squad remain in self-isolation and are continuing to do well, with some due to return home in the coming days.

The 34 members of the squad and management team who left Cape Town for home last week are also isolating and they will complete their quarantine period at the weekend.

Meanwhile, a squad is being put together for the trip to Coventry in the coming days and the availability of former Leinster tighthead Salanoa, who had been out with a knee injury, is good news for the province, following on from the return of centre Chris Farrell in recent days from an abdomen injury and Jonathan Wren, who was out with a leg issue.

Academy coach Ian Costello has been running the sessions at Munster's high performance centre at UL, with a group of senior internationals - including Peter O'Mahony, Keith Earls, Joey Carbery, Conor Murray and Damien de Allende - and Academy players who didn't travel to South Africa, plus a number of the province’s NTS (National Talent Squad) and PTS (Provincial Talent Squad) members.

As things stand, in terms of injury absentees for Coventry, Munster have Paddy Kelly (hamstring), Edwin Edogbo (achilles), John Hodnett (ankle), Calvin Nash (ankle), Rowan Osborne (head) and RG Snyman (knee) unavailable.
