Roman Kemp says it would be 'awful' if parents Shirlie and Martin Kemp returned to the stage

Roman Kemp has a lot to be thankful to his famous parents for - but he’s not keen on sharing the limelight with them now he is a star in his own right.

The radio DJ - who is the son of Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp and Shirlie Kemp of Pepsi & Shirlie - told the Mirror that despite him hosting the Capital Jingle Bell Ball concert this December, mum and dad certainly won’t be added to the bill.

Speaking at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball Kick Off Party on board the Barclaycard Boat, Roman said he won’t be pulling any strings to get 80s duo Pepsi & Shirlie on stage.

"Oh could you imagine?" he grimaced.

“That would be awful... awful!”

The line-up that will be invited to December’s gigs will be revealed on Capital today and tomorrow, and To Cut a Long Story Short, it won’t include Spandau Ballet.

"Absolutely not," laughs Roman, who already struggles to escape dad’s 1983 hit Gold...

"When I do DJ gigs, the song that goes off the most is Gold," he says.

"It breaks my heart every time."
