Roman Kemp's net worth as he plans to retire early after health diagnosis

Roman Kemp, 29, as shocked fans by admitting he is stepping away from showbiz for good.

The Capital breakfast show host has given himself five years before retiring from the industry.

It all comes after a diagnosis that is far worse than Roman could have expected.

He has been on the air since 2014 and hopes to have at least a decade in the industry before leaving it.

Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp 's son has certainly found immense success in that short time, amassing an impressive net worth over the years, allowing him to look forward to a comfortable retirement at such a young age.

According to celebritynetworth.com, Roman is worth £1.19 million.

The son of actor and musician Martin Kemp and singer Shirlie Holliman, he was born in Los Angeles, USA, in 1993.

Speaking about Roman's birth story, Martin revealed on Yahoo podcast White Wine Question Time that he was working on a film in LA at the time.

He didn't want to miss the birth, so his wife Shirley travelled even though she was nine months pregnant.

He told host Kate Thornton: "Now this is completely not allowed.

"Shirlie was the size of a house. We get all the coats and the bags and everything and we put it on top of Shirliee's big old belly. I'm trying to hide the fact that she's pregnant.”

Shirlie started having contractions as they walked up to customs, so they went straight to Cedars-Sinai Hospital, and Roman was born.

Shirlie said: “It was quite an experience having a baby when you've got no family or friends there. It gave Roman an American passport at the end of the day, which I didn't intend for!”

In 2016, he became the new face of The Capital Evening Show before switching to the breakfast show in 2017 where he remains.

In 2019, even competed in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! the show’s 19th season.

Earlier this year, Roman was diagnosed with sleep apnoea, a condition which causes breathing to stop and start while sleeping.

The star revealed it is very serious as well, as he even needs to wear breathing equipment while in bed.

Speaking to Mail Online, Roman said: "The doctors told me I must wear an oxygen mask. There is absolutely nothing sexy about going back to Roman Kemp's house.

“They are expecting candles and mood lighting but they're getting a Darth Vader impression into an oxygen tank."

He presenter has been open about his mental health recently as well, confessing to contemplating suicide whilst struggling with depression.

He said: "When you're in that zone, in an absolute spiral, everything goes into a blur. All I know I was in my house sat in my pants and I couldn't stop crying.

"I couldn't stop worrying about everything. My head was going like a whirlwind. I was worrying about stuff that wasn't even logical."

Roman isn’t leaving the airwaves straight away, as he still wants to remain part of the Capital team for a number of years.

Speaking to Mail Online, he said: "I want a decade on air at least. I would love to be able to say I did a decade on that show – whether my bosses will allow that I don't know."

As for what lies down the road for him, he admitted to wanting a quiet live but one that doesn’t necessary mean he’ll stay in the UK.

He added: "I want to get to the point where I start a family and do what I want to do. I want to be a stay-at-home dad and open a dog sanctuary."
