Roman Kemp gets tattoo tribute to producer Joe Lyons after tearful radio tribute

Roman Kemp has treated himself to new tattoo in memory of his best friend, and the producer of his Capital FM radio show, Joe Lyons.

Yesterday, Roman broke down in tears on his return to the Breakfast show as he opened up about Joe's death and said everyone at the station is 'completely devastated' and 'trying to process' the tragic news.

After his moving tribute, the former I'm A Celebrity star, 27, headed to the tattoo parlour to get a permanent reminder of his much-loved colleague.

Roman revealed on Instagram that he planned to copy a tattoo Joe had on his calf of a bird carrying a rose that he had always teased him about.

"Joe had this tattoo and I always used to say it was awful and looked like a pigeon," he told his followers.

The next picture on Roman's Instagram story was a photo of him showing off his fresh inking - which is an exact copy of Joe's design.

"So I got it in the same spot," he shared before posting a side by side shot of their now matching tattoos.

It comes after Roman spoke movingly of his late producer Joe to listeners of his Capital FM Breakfast show on Monday.

The radio star had surprised fans of his show by disappearing from the air midway through his broadcast last week along with co-stars Sian Welby and Sonny Jay.

Stand-in presenters had taken over for the rest of the week as Global gave Joe and his colleagues some time off.

Roman returned to the studio yesterday to announce his sudden departure was down to him being informed that Joe had sadly died.

"Last Tuesday, very suddenly, we lost one of our best friends, my best friend and our colleague, producer Joe.

"He was not just part of the Capital Breakfast family but a loved member of the whole team.

"Everybody that works here at Capital [is] obviously completely devastated and we're trying to process this all together," said Roman.

Roman described his friend as the 'nicest' person he'd met (Instagram)

He went on "[Joe] was the first person I met when I walked in the door, the very first person.

"I remember thinking, 'who's this guy?' This guy is a bit of a Del Boy!" - a reference to the lead character from Only Fools and Horses.

"He was with me right from my very first show, he taught me everything," he said, adding it was "really weird sitting in a radio studio without him".

Roman described Joe as "the nicest guy that I know, hands down."

After his moving tribute, radio stars from other stations praised Roman for his kind words.

Radio 1's Greg James called him 'incredibly brave.'
