Roman Abramovich to attend Chelsea's Champions League final clash with Man City

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will be flying into Porto on Saturday to watch the club he owns take on Manchester City in the Champions League final.

The Russian billionaire hasn’t been able to watch his Blues side play in person since 2018 after the expiration of his UK visa meant he couldn’t travel to London.

However, he did manage to watch the Blues take on Krasnodar in the Champions League earlier this season and was also in Gothenburg for the Women’s Champions League final earlier this month when Emma Hayes’ side were beaten by Barcelona.

Abramovich will be in attendance at the Estadio do Dragao on Saturday as he will hope to see his side win the Champions League for a second time, having last won it in 2012 on that famous night in Munich.

It could also be the first time that Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel will get to meet the man who employs him as the German has previously said he has yet to speak with Abramovich, dealing with director Marina Granovskaia and Petr Cech since he was parachuted into the club in late January.

Blues captain Cesar Azpilicueta faced the press in Portugal on Friday where he explained how big an influence Abramovich has had in the nine years since the last final victory in 2012

“He always showed that desire to make the club a winner and to always try to get the best for the club,” Azpilicueta said.

“But I don’t want him to stop there because he and everybody in the club do an amazing job off the pitch and I think it is remarkable.

“We are very grateful to have him with us."
