Roman Abramovich spending power gets further boost amid Chelsea's Kai Havertz move

Roman Abramovich's spending power has been buoyed as the Chelsea owner and his business partners sold their 40 per cent stake in Highland Gold on Friday.

The Russian businessman has already opened his chequebook for manager Frank Lampard during a busy transfer window which has seen the Blues complete the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

Morocco winger Ziyech arrived from Ajax for £33million while it cost £47.5million to prise Germany ace Werner from RB Leipzig.

But there is no sign of Chelsea's activity in the transfer market slowing down, with Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The 21-year-old attacker is set to cost £72million and is now reportedly Lampard's priority target.

And Chelsea's pursuit of the Germany international is sure to be boosted by news their owner's wealth has soared.

The 40 per cent stake in Highland Gold is set to be sold to Russian businessman Vladislav Sviblov, who valued the company at £1.4billion.

On the same day as the deal was reported, Abramovich is understood to have put £7million into Chelsea via share issue.

The 53-year-old, who bought the west London club in 2003, appears intent on backing Lampard's project and the Blues could be in line for more marquee signings before the window closes.

As well as Havertz, Chelsea are linked with moves for Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak and Manchester City defender John Stones.

Lampard's comments from last month hint that more arrivals at Stamford Bridge are likely.

“I’m certainly excited about the squad we’ve got, with the young players and if we can get a few additions for areas I feel we need,” the Englishman said.

“We didn’t bring in anyone in January, it didn’t work out to be right for us at the time, and last summer we couldn’t bring anyone in, so those windows are gone and we haven’t changed.

“So I am excited about the squad we’ve got, if we can freshen up in the right areas we all know that.”
