Roman Abramovich's wealth revealed as Chelsea owner climbs latest rich list

Roman Abramovich's time as Chelsea owner has been a hugely successful one.

The Russian billionaire has owned the west London club for 18 years now, winning 16 trophies in the process.

His large investment into transfers and Chelsea's state of the art training ground, Cobham, have helped propel the Blues into one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

During Abramovich's time at Stamford Bridge, the club have spent more than £2 billion on transfer fees, more than any other English team.

That kind of investment could only be done if Abramovich's net worth was one of the largest in the world, something confirmed by the Sunday Times' recently published rich list.

Abramovich climbed four places from last year's list and now sits eighth on the list with an estimated fortune of £12.1 billion from his oil and property empire.

He’s joined in the top ten by Alisher Usmanov, who had a substantial stake in Arsenal until 2018 when he was bought out by American Stan Kroenke.

David Sullivan, who is West Ham's current co-owner sits at 162 on the list, falling 27 places after his fortune was dented due to the financial implications of the pandemic.

The Welshman is joined by his son Jack, who was the managing director of West Ham United women from 2017 until earlier this year.

His previous role made him the youngest football executive in history as he started the position aged just 17.
