Roman Abramovich can use new January transfer privilege to hand Thomas Tuchel £63m dream signing

It's almost as if, metaphorically speaking, Roman Abramovich was born into a family of Nectar card-owning Sainsbury shoppers and, as he spread his wings, he eventually signed up for a Co-op membership card before finally securing himself a Tesco clubcard.

You can never get too many loyalty cards with your favourite retailers but the Chelsea owner's latest acquisition opens the door to a a new shop ahead of the winter transfer window.

Remember, a clubcard doesn't necessarily get you free shopping but it can give you discounts and exclusive deals, which is exactly what Abramovich will be hoping he can redeem for the west Londoners this January as a new customer.

And yes, football.london have just compared retail loyalty cards to passports, in jest of course, following the Russian billionaire's new Portuguese citizenship.

With a new passport in hand, Chelsea have recently emerged as potential suitors for the services of Wolves' Ruben Neves, according Fichajes.

However, despite Thomas Tuchel being in need of a top midfielder to bolster his options, the 24-year-old isn't the Portuguese international the west Londoners should target.

Instead, the Blues should focus on getting to the front of the long queue of side that are after Atletico Madrid's Joao Felix.

While clubcards don't usually cut queues, Chelsea fans will be hoping Abramovich's does.

Atletico Madrid are willing to relieve the 22-year-old forward of his services under Diego Simeone and four Premier League sides are interested, according to Spanish outlet AS.

The report names Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle as the quartet of English sides to have enquired about Felix's future.

Abramovich must do everything he can to get Chelsea into the running for the Portuguese forward's signature to help solve the Blues' goal-scoring woes.

Felix, who is valued at £63 million by Transfermarkt, hasn't been able to sustain a healthy run of form under Simeone at the Wanda Metropolitano, starting just four La Liga clashes this season.

While a move for the youngster could prove costly, having joined Atletico from Benfica in 2019 for £114 million, if Tuchel were able to ignite Felix's flame in the Chelsea front three then the Blues would hit the jackpot.
