Roma midfielder apologises to fans ahead of Manchester United Europa League second leg

AS Roma midfielder Gianluca Mancini has apologised to supporters after his side lost again at the weekend.

The Serie A side have seen their season unravel after a run of six matches without a win, a drop in form which has left Roma seventh in the league and on the verge of a Europa League exit.

Roma were thrashed 6-2 by Manchester United in the first leg of their European semi-final last Thursday night and tasted defeat again with a 2-0 loss away at Sampdoria on Sunday.

The dreadful run of form leaves Paulo Fonseca's side with a mammoth challenge on their hands as they know they need to beat United by at least four goals if they are to have any chance of reaching the Europa League final.

The second leg will likely be a case of restoring pride for Roma this Thursday night and ahead of the match Mancini has apologised to supporters for the poor performances of late.

“We are going through a really tough spell,” Mancini said. “We came here after the defeat in Manchester, which really took the wind out of our sails. Tonight we didn’t bounce back, we deserved to lose.

“We need to apologise to the fans, stay quiet and do everything we can to turn this form around and finish the season as well as possible."
