Roma join AC Milan with 'strong interest' in Ireland star Jeff Hendrick

Roma have reportedly joined fellow Italian Serie A giants AC Milan in the race for Burnley and Ireland midfielder Jeff Hendrick's signature.

Hendrick is coming to the end of his contract at Turf Moor and Italian outlet CalcioMercato reports that Roma and Milan have 'strong interest' in the 28-year-old midfielder.

Burnley have held talks with the Dubliner over an extension but he would be available to leave on a free transfer if they fail to agree terms.

A number of other Premier League clubs are also reportedly interested in his signature.

Hendrick's contract was due to expire at the end of June before the Premier League ruled that players with expiring deals would have the opportunity to secure extensions until the end of the 2019/20 season following its suspension due to coronavirus.

Hendrick sealed a £10.5M move to Burnley from Derby County in August 2016 after he starred for Ireland at the European Championships that summer.

His childhood pal and international team-mate Robbie Brady recently saw his deal with The Clarets extended.

The club triggered an option to keep Brady, 28, on their books for a further 12 months
