The Rolling Stones tweeted a video compilation honoring drummer Charlie Watts. who died Tuesday in a London hospital.
The montage shows Watts through various stages of his career with the band, dating back to 1963. Watts, whose steady hands and calm demeanor allowed for superstars Mick Jagger and Keith Richards to soak up the spotlight, was 80.
The tribute ends with a still photo of Watts’ drum set with a shop sign reading “Closed” hanging from one of its stands. That was also the image Richards shared on the day Watts died.
Watts announced earlier this month that he would not be joining the Stones on tour because he was on the mend from an unspecified medical procedure.
“For once my timing has been a little off,” he joked in a statement announcing drummer Steve Jordan would be filling in.
Jagger tweeted at the time that he looked forward to jamming with Watts again once he’d recovered.
