Roller derby team evacuated during training due to fire in practice hall

A local roller derby team's first training session of the season became a memorable one after they were evacuated due to a fire in their practice hall.

Dublin Roller Derby were enjoying being back in action after their summer break.

But their session at the Inchicore Community Sports Centre came to an unexpected end when a fire started in the kitchen of the complex.

Several units of Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene as the team and staff at the centre were safely evacuated.

Dublin Fire Brigade later Tweeted: "This afternoon, Firefighters from Dolphins Barn and HQ extinguished a kitchen fire in a sports complex in Inchicore.

"Prompt evacuation by @DubCityCouncil fire marshals in the centre ensured there were no injuries. Two BA teams fought the fire."

Dublin Roller Derby also took to social media to thank the firefighters and Dublin City Council staff for their help.

They said: "So, our first post-summer break scrimmage is going well... Thanks to the @DubCityCouncil staff for an efficient evacuation & @DubFireBrigade for keeping everyone safe & literally putting out fires."
