Roller-coaster ride for regional newspapers

It's probably best to give Johnston Press "a wide berth for now". That's the view of James Quinn in the Daily Telegraph's Questor column. It says something about the state of Britain's regional newspapers if that's the conclusion about one of the best run, most successful and most profitable of companies. Johnston's ceo, Tim Bowdler gave an uplifting speech about the industry's future only hours before admitting to the City that there had been "no discernible improvement" in the ad market since the company reported a 10.5% slump in ad revenue in March. It's a roller-coaster ride in the regions nowadays. (Via Telegraph Business)
