Due to the Covid situation, the Ranji Trophy, wasn't played for nearly two years. For those who aspired to don the India whites or were near to getting selected in the Test team, it was a massive dent to their chances.
The resumption of the Ranji last week has been a welcome boon for many domestic cricketers, and Rohit Sharma had some words of encouragement for the performers.
"All I can tell them is keep scoring runs and the opportunity will come as it has for (Hanuma) Vihari, Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill and all those guys, who are presently part of the Test team now," said Rohit.
"A lot of these guys, who are scoring runs, taking wickets, you got to keep scoring runs and keep taking wickets.
"You got to keep your head down and keep doing your job, that is what I can tell them at the moment and that is all we are expecting them to do. And then there will come a time and the opportunity will arise.
"Their focus now should be to get more and more runs rather than worry about getting selected," Rohit said.
