Rohan Smith stays silent on controversial Leeds Rhinos decision after RFL request

General thoughts
A good, hard game, wasn't it? A good way to finish Easter Sunday. A good, fair game to have a spectacle like that. It was a mixed performance for us but resilience was front and centre. We found another gear when we had twelve men and when we were in front at the end there we did enough and looked like they were enjoying that element of it too which is important.

Concerned at the poor start?
Not overly. Our first halves haven't been strong. We've been down most games at half-time. But our second halves have been particularly good, they were at the backend of last season and this season. They've had to be because we've been down at half-time. We've got to get the start of the game attended to also.

Richie Myler sin-bin
I've been asked not to comment by the RFL.

The response to the sin-bin
We found energy on both occasions when we've had twelve men this year. We did well during that period. I think in the modern game, it's more common to play with twelve so players aren't that shocked. Going to a lot of footy and games growing up, going to 12 was a big thing. But now I think a lot of teams can find ten minutes without much hassle.

We certainly found another level of energy and I thought Tetevano and Lisone off the bench today made a real impact in tandem. They played with each other and fed off each other. Zane had a spring in his step and Sam had a big impact.

Nerves at the end?
Not too bad, I haven't had too many flutters in the close games. I'm not sure what that means.

There's a big difference between a little bit of a strong game and what we think is bad. It gives us belief and trust as that was the first time at the backend both teams were tired. There's been some other games where we've had to work hard till the end when we've had heaps of energy. But that's the game. High-quality games, we found enough.

Nene Macdonald
He had a big contribution. I've watched Nene over the years and he's a difference-maker with his ball carry. He can give off sloppy body language but when the ball is back in his hands he's fine. He's fasting and I respect his life choice there and doing the right thing by his family and faith. He played a strong game against Catalans and a strong game tonight. It shows its power of the mind to some of the other guys rather than just calories and water intake.

Cameron Smith
Cam has had a good start to the season. He's taken his game to another level, he's hard to take off as he keeps finding more energy. He has aspects he wants to improve but he's certainly having a contribution. He's excited like it's his first game every day, as he is Leeds Rhinos.

Rhyse Martin's goal-kicking
I don't think he's struggling. He's missed a few, I think every kicker that plays a sport that's swing-based goes through a phase. I don't think he's striking it badly, he's had a few strikes he'd like back but he nailed a few in tough conditions at Hull KR last week. He'll get back to his practice and we'll trust him.

The poor starts
We certainly need to improve our first half, there's no doubt, but I also don't want to lose the second half. We look like we're going to win every second half we play. If there is something specific, we started with good intent, there were a lot of things we can't control in that first period. We're not a great team but we're going OK.

James McDonnell
He's played six in a row now. I don't think he'd played two in a row during his time at Wigan. From what I'd seen of him playing footage in Academy, reserves, some at Leigh, that was all good. I saw enough there to have a chat with him. He's a very good human, humble confidence was what I was thinking. He believes in himself and so do I.
