Rogue cow escapes slaughterhouse and runs into local Centra in Co Cork

A rogue cow was seen running into a local Centra after escaping from a slaughterhouse in Co Cork.

The heifer went on the loose in Castlemartyr on Tuesday, August 13 and ended up in the store room of a local shop after a chase around the village.

The frightened animal ran around the car park before bursting into the back of the shop, CorkBeo reports.

Store worker Monica Staszak was working at the time and said they were lucky that nothing was damaged.

Monica told CorkBeo: "It happened very quick, it was in the car park and they were trying to catch her, we closed the gate and the door so she went for the back door.

"All customers and staff were protected and luckily no real damage was done.

"The cow was trapped in the car park and then the store room.

"There was one person in the store and she got a bit of a fright but everyone was fine."

And despite it being the middle of the day and quite a busy customer time, no cars were damaged by the energetic animal.

The cow was eventually brought under control and may actually have managed to save her life as a result of the stunt.

Clifford's abattoir released the cow back to her farm and are unlikely to take her back as she is likely to remember the distressing incident.
