Rogue Brisbane tyre company ordered to clean up

Mr Di Carlo has been ordered to clean up the business, on top of other environment protection orders.

A rogue tyre recycling operator, who has had two fires at his business in Brisbane's south, has been handed clean-up notices.

The latest fire broke out at Tony Di Carlo's business at Rocklea last month, the first was in 2016.

The Environment Department has revealed that soon after the blaze it issued clean-up notices to Mr Di Carlo, Grindle Services, and Ace Recycling.

The notices gave them until July 10 to remove firefighting water, and other materials from a drainage line.

"At the time of the fire, the Queensland Government acted quickly to pump waste water from the site to avoid it entering a nearby creek, preventing potential environmental harm," the department said in a statement, released today.

"There is a bunded drain near the site which is holding run-off storm water and may still contain burnt tyre residue, firefighting water."

Mr Di Carlo told the ABC the department had issued "incorrect notices".

He said his business has done nothing wrong.

"We have consultants involved that are ensuring no water from the fire has gone into the canal."

A spokesman said the department is currently assessing whether the notices have been complied with, and if not, what action can be taken.

It was revealed in December the Government issued separate environmental protection orders to Mr Di Carlo and companies linked to him over fire risk from a build up of tyres at the Rocklea site and another at Kingston.

It is still assessing whether it is satisfied with Di Carlo's response to those orders.
