Roger Mitchell tears into Celtic over supporter behaviour in Como

Former SPFL chief executive Roger Mitchell has criticised Celtic over the behaviour of their fans in Como.

The club are in Italy for the Como Cup, a pre-season tournament that also features Ajax, Al Ahli and Como.

Celtic supporters clashed with Ajax fans during their match on Thursday, leading the 'Italian Celts CSC' to release a statement.

Mitchell recently weighed in. He is a Celtic fan who lives in Como and runs a sports investment company, as well as a major sports conference that takes place annually by the lake.

He said on X: "What a total mess my club has got itself into.

"In truth, they are becoming an unwelcome guest. Just play football. People are entitled to view Gaza from many different angles. It’s been a dispute for millennia. Both sides have grievances.

"What is unacceptable is that my club accepts zero latitude of view. And demands to stuff their dogma down everyone else’s throat. Not in my name.

"Please don’t come back to Como. You are like those students unfurling flags at graduation ceremonies. Spoiling a very important day for everyone else.

"When Iran and its vassals like Hamas recognise the right of Israel to exist, we can have a grown-up discussion on politics."

Celtic take on Al Ahli in their second and final Como Cup outing tonight.
