Roger Mitchell announces SPFL 'crystal ball' meeting with Aberdeen chief Dave Cormack

Former SPFL chief executive Roger Mitchell has taken to Twitter to announce a 'whiteboard' podcast to chart the future of Scottish football with Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack and Motherwell CEO Alan Burrows.

Mitchell, who is a controversial and forthright figure on the social media platform, was the founding chief executive of the SPL during a four year spell from 1998 to 2002.

His advocacy of the league creating SPL TV, their own bespoke channel that cut out the middle men of television networks and went direct to consumers is one of the most intriguing chapters in the game's recent history.

He is now an investor and co-creator of the sports business podcast network Are You Not Entertained that has featured interviews with the likes of Rory McIlroy, Thomas Bjorn and Pat Nevin.

And the forthcoming Scottish football podcast will feature a host of well known names at the weekend as Mitchell and his guests attempt to map out a way forward for the game as it faces existential challenges.

He said on Twitter: "We've been thinking about it for a while. The definitive longform podcast discussion on 'where now' for Scottish football. But not just in of itself, but as a crystal ball of what might be about to happen in England or Italy.

"So you need the right people. SPFL insiders, top thinkers. No agendas or paid propaganda.

"So this weekend the podcast will bring together Dave Cormack, Alan Burrows, Jim Spence (former BBC journalist) and Darryl Broadfoot (SFA PR guru) for a roundtable whiteboard session.

"I want to use the Scottish experience in these last 10 weeks to peer into the future. The English Football League is currently struggling with many of the same worries. Existential. No playing politics, no sacred cows. This is forwarding looking, for solutions."
