Kyle Edmund will face Roger Federer for the first time in his career when the pair meet in the last 16 at Indian Wells tonight.
The 23-year-old will be hoping the fall of big seeds continues after an out-of-sorts Novak Djokovic suffered a surprise 6-4, 6-4 defeat to Philipp Kohlschreiber overnight.
In contrast, Edmund, seemingly free of the knee injury that curtailed his start to the season, never looked in danger as he defeated Radu Albot 6-3, 6-3 to set up the Federer match.
But the 20-time Grand Slam winner warned Edmund was a tough proposition amid his current run, which included winning the Challenger event in Indian Wells last week.
“I think he’s a really good player – great forehand, unbelievable power there, great mover, good balance,” said Federer of his Laver Cup team-mate.
“He’s just won the Challenger here so he’s played a bunch of matches – more than anybody else in this event. I think it’s a good advantage for him.
“He came through very convincing in the last couple. We had a great week at the Laver Cup, I could see what he had and I was highly impressed.”
