Sept. 13--REPORTING FROM NEW YORK -- Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer will play for the U.S. Open men's singles title Sunday. A match between the pair is nothing new. It will be their 42nd meeting.
Here is a quick breakdown:
--Federer has won 21 times, Djokovic 20. Djokovic has won the last two that count the most for these guys, Wimbledon finals in 2013 and 2014.
--Federer has not lost a match, not even a set, since Djokovic beat him in that Wimbledon final in July. Djokovic has lost two sets here, but like Federer, breezed through his semifinal in straight sets. They last played a month ago in Cincinnati and Federer won in straight sets.
--At 34, Federer has won a record 17 major titles, his last one the 2012 Wimbledon. Djokovic, 28, is going for major title No. 10. If he wins, he will actually have had a better year than Serena Williams in regards to major titles. She was stopped from winning all four in Friday's semifinals here. Djokovic won the Australian and Wimbledon and lost the French in the final. Djokovic joins Rod laver and Federer as the third player in tennis' open era to make all four finals in the same year.
--Djokovic, from Serbia, is seeded No. 1; Federer, from Switzerland, No. 2. They have played 13 times in majors, Djokovic leading, 7-6.
--The winner gets $3.3 million, the loser $1.6 million.
--ESPN will televise the match, starting at 1 p.m., Pacific.
