Roger Federer stunned by Hubert Hurkacz as bid for ninth Wimbledon title comes to shocking end

Roger Federer's hopes of a ninth Wimbledon title are over after he was beaten in straight sets by Poland's Hubert Hurkacz.

The Swiss star was beaten by the World No 18 6-3, 7-6, 6-0.

It was the first time Federer had ever lost a set at Wimbledon to love and his first straight sets defeat since 2002.

Some have speculated that it could be his last ever game at SW19.

Federer's last Wimbledon title came in 2017 and he retains the affection of the crowd, who were shocked by the manner of his defeat.

Now 39-years-old, the 20-time Grand Slam champion may have said his final farewell to the sport and the arena which has cemented him as an all-time great.

Federer's defeat was far from expected and leaves Novak Djokovic in pole position to win his sixth title at SW19.

Boris Becker doubted that we would ever see him at Wimbledon again when analysing his defeat in the BBC Studio.

"I don't know if we will see the great man again. Time doesn't stand still for any man or woman," he said.

Djokovic took a step closer to his 20th grand slam title earlier in the day after easing into the final four with a 6-3 6-4 6-4 victory over Marton Fucsovics.

And the Serbian insisted that, after playing in front of a Centre Court crowd more on the side of his opponent, he isn’t a bad guy.

Djokovic said: “I don’t consider myself a bad guy. I’m not chasing anybody. I’m making my own path and my own journey, my own history. I’m privileged to be part of the history of this sport that I love.

“I know about a lot of stats. I don’t know about all of them. But they do motivate me even more to play my best tennis at the events that count the most in our sport.”

Denis Shapovalov, Andy Murray's conquerer, is also into the semi-finals after he saw off Karen Khachanov in five sets.

Tomorrow will see the four remaining women square off in the semi-finals.

World No 1 Ash Barty has looked impressive thus far and will take on former champion Angelique Kerber.

The German looks back to her best and will be targeting a fourth Grand Slam title.

Aryna Sabalenka and Karoline Pliskova will also play for a spot in the final.
