It appears even one of the world’s most recognised sports stars has to carry around ID.
Twenty-time grand slam champion Roger Federer was refused entry to the men's locker room at the Australian Open on Saturday afternoon after he forgot his pass.
Federer is one of the most famous faces in tennis but a guard still required to see his official accreditation before he was allowed through.
But he was not carrying his pass and was forced to wait until a member of his team arrived to prove who he was to the steward.
The International Tennis Federation tweeted a video of the exchange, alongside the caption “rules are rules, even Roger Federer needs his accreditation.”
Federer is not the first high-profile player to be stopped by security at the Australian Open this year.
The tournament’s 2008 champion Maria Sharapova, was also forced to retrieve her ID from her bag after being stopped in a corridor.
Freelance commentator John Horn tweeted a video of the Sharapova being queried, writing: “Security not quite familiar with maria Sharapova it seems.”
Federer will return to court on Sunday when he faces Stefanos Tsitsipas in the night session on the Rod Laver Arena.
