Roger Federer challenges two DCU students to a tennis match in aid of charity

Roger Federer has taken to Instagram to challenge two DCU students to a tennis match, all in aid of charity.

DCU students Jamie Duff and Ollie White didn’t expect the tennis sensation to slide into their DMs to arrange a friendly game.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion is even considering flying to Ireland after the lockdown to meet with the pair of boys.

The lads recorded their tennis skills in their local area of Ashbourne and innocently tagged Roger Federer in their Instagram stories.

It didn’t take long for the sports superstar to text back complementing their game.

He replied: “Great skills. Would love to come and play you guys after the Lockdown.”

But that was just the beginning, as the 21-year-old lads replied with a voice note challenging him to come over to Ireland for a match.

They said: “If you actually came over and had a match with us that would make our dreams come true.

“But let's quit all the talk and actually make it happen, make an event out of it to do with charity or just something fun.”

Federer took time out of his busy schedule to reply with a proposition saying: “Hey guys what's going on? Listen, I love the video and thought it was great.

There was even a sense of some small trash talk: “Tennis was looking good, maybe a little bit of work needed, you know the foot work and everything, but it looked great.

“I think we should do something definitely with my charity, but send your email to my agent and we’ll sort something out.”

Jamie told Dublin Live: "We are both 21 year old Multimedia students in DCU living together in Ashbourne. We luckily have access to a court throughout lockdown so we have been spending our days playing tennis for hours on end."

He explained how the whole idea came about: "We decided to film some clips on Ollie's GoPro and he threw them up on his Instagram story tagging Roger. We never expected him to contact us but luckily he saw it and responded outlining the possibility of a future charity match.

"Since then we have gained over 21 thousand views on Tik Tok and have been featured on Sportbible's Twitter page. We are very excited to see what happens next."

Roger, the boys are ready, the ball is in your court!
