Rogano Glasgow: Owners confirm iconic city centre restaurant will return - but not this year

Iconic Glasgow restaurant Rogano will return to business - but not this year.

In September 2020, the owners behind Rogano were forced to shut down rumours it was permanently closing, with it having been boarded up for much of the year on account of coronavirus.

It was stated the restaurant was in a 'period of restructuring', with the hope it would re-open in 2021.

Lynn Mortimer, MD of Lynnet Leisure, then said: "Like a number of restaurant groups we are currently going through a period of restructuring as a result of the devastating impact Covid-19 has had on business.

"Following completion of that programme it is our intent that Rogano, following a refurbishment, will open again at some point in 2021. We can confirm the restaurant is not for sale."

And with a number of Glaswegians and regular customers of the Rogano asking whether the restaurant would soon reopen amid the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in recent weeks, owners have today advised the city centre institution will return, but we may have to wait a little while longer.

A spokesperson for Lynnet Leisure advised: "Rogano will return but we have no plans for the venue to open this year."

During its closure, Rogano's boarded up windows have played host to a Champagne Cabaret, famous faces of Rogano, bartenders mixing the perfect martini over the last few months – becoming a canvas for telling the stories of Glasgow’s most famous restaurant.

'Jazz in the Oyster Bar' is the fourth and final installement of the mural project that launched in October, seeing the restaurant work with local artists Ida Henrich, Calum Lockerbie, Sophy Louise and for the fourth mural, Katie Smith.

We're all looking forward to Rogano's return - we just have to be patient.
