Rodrigues brothers band together to form Snowfish

WARMING UP: Lake Macquarie band Snowfish are, from left, Solomon, Jordan and Kalan Rodrigues. They will release their debut single Ghost on Monday.

THE final piece in Snowfish's puzzle was right under Jordan Rodrigues' nose the entire time.

Since 2016 the 21-year-old Jordan (guitar and vocals) and his 19-year-old brother Solomon (drums) had been performing in different line-ups with with various bassists. Nothing would gel.

After three gigs in June last year as Snowfish the Lake Macquarie duo again found themselves looking for a bass guitarist. This time they looked down the hall of their Marmong Point family home to their 15-year-old brother Kalan.

Finally everything clicked.

A year on Snowfish - which takes its name from Jordan's childhood X-Box username - are preparing to release their debut single, Ghost. The track was recorded by The Grove's Jack Nigro (Middle Kids, DMA's, DZ Deathrays) at his Coogee studio and is influenced by the Rodrigues brothers' love of Muse and My Chemical Romance's bombast brand of alt-rock.

Ghost was inspired by Jordan's experience of deleting himself from social media for three years.

"It spurred from a disenchantment with it," Jordan said. "As it's grown in prominence, personally I felt a disconnect from it."

Begrudgingly Jordan is back on social media, partly to promote Snowfish.

"It definitely made me an outcast from other people my age and I definitely lost a lot of friends by just not being on there, as people don't contact you as much.

"Starting up a band, I eventually found it's almost impossible not to have it. I thought it might be possible, but if you want to succeed and keep in touch with people it's pretty much essential."

Snowfish with the three Rodrigues brothers made their debut supporting Newcastle indie band Cooks & Bakers at the Newcastle Hotel last year. Jordan grew up with Cooks & Bakers' frontman Campbell Ross.

Snowfish also performed at the Cambridge Hotel as part of the triple j Hottest 100 party in January.

Ghost will be released next Monday.
