Newcastle United handed Rodrigo Vilca his Toon debut in the Under-23 clash at St James' Park against Fulham.
The Peruvian youngster - who arrived on deadline day for a nominal fee - started alongside first teamers Paul Dummett, Ciaran Clark and Matty Longstaff.
There was also a shock start for Morocco international Achraf Lazaar with the left-sided player back at the club following a loan stint with Cosenza Calcio last season.
Lazaar failed to get a move on deadline day and is into the last year of his career on Tyneside.
The second string team sheet also indicated that Newcastle expect Karl Darlow to be OK for the weekend.
Current third choice Dan Langley started the match between the posts and may not have been risked had Darlow suffered a bad reaction.
