Rodrigo sets out pre-season stall after his blistering finish to last term

Rodrigo is looking forward to the advantages of his first full pre-season under Marcelo Bielsa with Leeds United.

After arriving in late August last year from Valencia, the Spain international only had two weeks with his new team-mates before the curtain-raiser at Liverpool.

This time around, after a blistering finish to last term, the 30-year-old is hopeful an entire summer under Bielsa’s watchful gaze will give him a boost.

“For everyone, the pre-season is really important, especially when you arrive new in a club,” he told BBC Radio Leeds. “You have time to prepare yourself, to adapt yourself to the team.

“It’s true last season wasn’t like this, but it doesn’t matter, it was a good season also. It’s true I will have more time this year to prepare myself for the season.”

Rodrigo finished last season with four goals in his last four matches and looked sharper than ever in Leeds white during the final game against West Bromwich Albion.

The number 20 has his eyes on taking that momentum into pre-season and the new campaign next month.

Asked if Leeds would now be seeing the best of him, Rodrigo said: “I hope so. I am working for that.

“I am working every day, working hard to do my best, to bring my best version and I am excited to start training with everyone and do my best this season.”
