Rodrigo's first words after sealing club-record Leeds United transfer

Rodrigo is looking forward to working under 'one of the best coaches in football' after his move to Leeds United was confirmed.

The Whites have broken their 20-year-old transfer record to bring the Spain international to the club, who joins for a fee believed to be £27million and has signed a four-year deal.

Marcelo Bielsa led Leeds back to the Premier League following a 16-year absence last season and the club have wasted little time in securing a marquee signing in a clear show of intent from the club.

"For me, I'm really happy, very excited to join the club for this important season for all of us, coming back to the Premier League," Rodrigo told LUTV.

"I just want to thank you all for the messages on the social media. Thank you to the club, the president Andrea, Victor Orta for the effort. For me it's important, a new step in my career and I want to help the team to achieve the goals of the season.

"Leeds have been working for two weeks almost on this deal with Valencia. We knew that Valencia has more problems now because we didn't achieve the Champions League last season. But since the first time Victor talked to me I knew I wanted this new challenge with Leeds, a storied club. I just want to help everybody to achieve the goals of the season."

The prospect of linking up with Bielsa is something that appeals hugely to the 29-year-old.

"Of course. Working with him, I think is working with one of the best coaches in football at this moment. He did important things in different clubs and of course I'm really excited to learn from him, to improve my football with hard work, with team work and I hope we can do important things this season."

This will be Rodrigo's second taste of the Premier League following a season spent on loan at Bolton ten years ago, with the former Benfica man looking forward to again sampling the culture of English football.

"Yeah, my first experience was with Bolton in 2010. It was my first year in the first division. It was a really, really nice experiece. I was young at that moment, of course nowadays I'm a better player, I'm a more complete player than those years. And I'm really excited to come back to the Premier League, how people feel the football there is different from the other countries and that's it.

"I want to enjoy, me and my family, it's an important step professionally but in my life also. I think it's going to be a good experience."
