Rodrigo Riquelme in fresh Celtic transfer link as Hoops eye ‘big economic offer’ for Atletico Madrid rising star

Premiership champions Celtic are weighing up a summer move for Rodrigo Riquelme - according to a report.

Marca stated last week that both the Hoops and rivals Rangers were "knocking on his door" and now Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport claim Neil Lennon 's side are readying a "big economic offer."

The Atletico Madrid playmaker is a hot commodity and interest in his services has increased with his contract set to expire in the summer.

Riquelme has produced a string of eye-catching displays at youth level but he has been unable to become a regular in Diego Simeone's senior side.

The 19-year-old, who can play as a winger or a No.10, earned a recent glowing reference comparing him to Barcelona star Antoine Griezmann.

He turned heads in a 4-0 win against Graeme Murty's U19 side in February and that performance on Scottish soil appears to have been noted.

Celtic's head of football Nick Hammond and Lennon's transfer plans are in a state of flux as the coronavirus pandemic has wiped out football across the globe.

But it appears likely Riquelme will be on the move when his deal expires at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Celtic have options in wide areas but Mohammed Elyounoussi's long-term future remains unclear with the £16m Southampton winger set to return to the Premier League.

Marian Shved has struggled mightily to make any sort of Parkhead impact and new recruits could be sought at the next available opportunity.
