Rodrigo issues optimistic injury update after Leeds United star undergoes scan

Rodrigo has provided an update on the injury which forced him off in Leeds United’s win over Leicester City on Sunday.

The Spaniard appeared to injure his groin in the 18th minute when stretching for a pass and was soon replaced by Mateusz Klich when it was clear he could not continue.

Marcelo Bielsa confirmed Rodrigo had undergone a scan on Monday ahead of Leeds’ Premier League home game against Everton on Wednesday, but the extent of the injury is not yet clear.

Bielsa gives a Leeds United injury update

"Rodrigo is having a scan at the moment to evaluate his condition," Bielsa said in his pre-match press conference ahead of the midweek Elland Road clash.

"He had an action where both his feet were very wide apart and potentially that excessive stretch could have caused a muscle injury."

Rodrigo has scored three goals and made one assist in 18 Premier League appearances this season since his club-record £26million move from Valencia in August.

While the extent of the problem is not yet known, Leeds fans will be encouraged by Rodrigo’s Instagram post on Monday evening.

“Great result yesterday against a very tough team,” he wrote. “A minor setback personally but already working to be back soon! One day less to come back.”

The Whites had two other injury worries following the impressive away win at Leicester, with Raphinha and Patrick Bamford both showing signs of problems following the full-time whistle.

Raphinha was replaced by Helder Costa in the 80th minute of the 3-1 win at the King Power Stadium after he went down injured, while Bamford said post-match that he had suffered a dead leg.

"The other two cases are less worrying," Bielsa added. "It means that two days prior to the game you can't be sure that any player will be available for the game.. The only thing to add is that the problem that Rodrigo has to overcome to be available on Wednesday is bigger.

"The problems that Raphinha and Bamford have to overcome are more simple."

Diego Llorente and Robin Koch both remain sidelined with injuries, while Gaetano Berardi and Adam Forshaw are both also unavailable to Bielsa.
