Danny Mills says Rodrigo De Paul could be the perfect Pablo Hernandez replacement at Leeds United.
The Whites continue to chase Udinese attacking midfielder De Paul, although the two clubs remain apart in their valuation of the player.
De Paul appeared to confirm his desire to join Leeds in a now-deleted Tweet on Monday evening and Mills is not surprised that Marcelo Bielsa is keen on his compatriot.
Speaking to Genting Bet, Mills said De Paul could be the perfect foil and possible replacement for Hernandez.
The former Leeds right-back argued that, with Hernandez turning 36 towards the end of this season, it is unlikely that the Spaniard will be able to feature consistently.
For Mills, that means De Paul makes perfect sense as a transfer target.
"Bielsa is incredibly good at putting square pegs in round holes and turning them into square holes," Mills said. "He shuffles his pack incredibly well.
"When you look at Hernandez, he is an exceptional player, but he's not the youngest.
"He is going to tire towards the end of games.
"Leeds need somebody to back him up or to go alongside into play instead of him sometimes.
"A player with that creativity, who can unlock a defence and can play that killer ball. And that's probably what they’re looking at in Rodrigo De Paul."
The Whites could well end up leaving it late to land the 26-year-old, with under three weeks left in the transfer window.
