Rodri responds to Pep Guardiola challenge at Man City

Rodri is up for the challenge of taking his game to the next level at Manchester City as he looks to build on his impressive form.

The Spanish midfielder was signed from Atletico in 2019 for £60m but the burden of replacing Fernandinho in the team has proved a difficult one - so much so that the 36-year-old has signed two contract extensions since to remain at the club.

Pep Guardiola infamously left both players out of his starting XI for the Champions League final in May, ditching his holding midfielders for their biggest game of the season. And while Rodri has worked his way back into the team with some excellent performances, his manager has made it clear that there is room for further improvement should he be open to learning.

That is a challenge that a player who has combined a business degree with his football is only too happy to accept.

Away with the Spanish national team for their World Cup qualifiers with Greece and Sweden this week, Rodri spoke of his happiness at the Etihad where he is regularly expected to get better and nobody is content to settle.

"I have found a place where I am very happy and I can develop my football and improve with one of the best coaches in a spectacular team," he told Marca.

"I am in a place where they believe in continuous improvement. Every year there is a desire to improve that is key to me "
