Rodri names player he is learning from at Man City

Rodri has revealed that he is learning from Manchester City teammate Fernandinho, but insists they are different players.

The defensive midfielder has become a near ever-present for Pep Guardiola this season, playing all but 45 of every possible Premier League minute so far and also appearing in every match in the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

Rodri has made himself undroppable after taking over the defensive midfield role from Fernandinho and he has discussed his relationship with the Brazilian.

“He’s a top player, and… we need him because of his experience and quality,” the Spaniard told City's official site.

“But I know we are different players and have different things to show to the team.

“I try to learn from him but not exactly the same, we are different players and do what the manager demands of us.”

Rodri arrived in Manchester from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019 for a then club-record transfer fee and the 24-year-old has also said he remains pleased with his decision.

"In London, in Manchester, they’re big cities in football culture in our country," he added.

“You have this feeling that you are in the best environment of football, the best quality, and that makes you improve and grow a lot since you were a kid.

“I’m quite happy with how things are going, I’m very optimistic and I’m very happy of my decision, I’m really happy here.”
