Rodri confident Man City have what it takes to finish off job against Real Madrid

Manchester City have what it takes to knock Real Madrid out of the Champions League, reckons midfielder Rodri.

Pep Guardiola's side host the 13-time winners in the second leg of their last 16 Champions League tie on Friday, with City leading 2-1 from the first leg.

Rodri is confident City can progress to the last eight in Lisbon, but admitted they will have to reach the level they produced at the Bernabeu back in February if they are to go through.

“I'm really confident,” said Rodri. "They are a great team and they can beat you, because they are Real Madrid, but we have to show them we are a better team.

“We showed them at their home, but we need to be ready because you never know what is going to happen. We have to be focused.

“They are the greatest team in La Liga and they have shown that this year. We need to do our best to get to the next round.”

City defender Aymeric Laporte echoed team-mate Rodri and said: “We're ready to fight and we have to compete.

“We're working every day to win this game. It’s a big competition. Hopefully we can win and progress to the next phase.

“I don’t know how the gap between fixtures will affect the game. But we are ready to play against them and we will be prepared to fight until the end.”

The prize for the winners is a quarter-final tie in Lisbon against Lyon or Juventus, who play their second leg on the same night, with the last eight clash set to take place on Saturday August 15.

The victors of that will play for a place in the final on Wednesday August 19 in what is set to be a frenetic couple of weeks of Champions League football.
