Rodri breaks silence on Man City transfer as he becomes club record signing

New Manchester City signing Rodri is excited to get to work with Pep Guardiola and enjoys the champions' style of play.

The 23-year-old became City's second summer signing, following the arrival of Angelino from PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday, in a deal worth £62million, making him the club's most expensive signing.

Rodri spent a season with Atletico Madrid where he impressed in defensive midfield making 47 appearances and scoring three goals and he's looking forward to his new challenge at the Etihad.

“What City have achieved in the last two years has been amazing and I’m looking forward to being part of such a talented squad,” Rodri said.

“It’s not just the titles they have won, but the way they have managed it, playing attacking football at all times.

“It’s a style that excites me, as do the Club’s ambitions. I can’t wait to start working with Pep Guardiola and my new team-mates and hopefully we can achieve great things together.”

The Spain international is viewed as a long term successor to Fernandinho and City's director of football Txiki Begiristain believes he will be the perfect fit in the middle for the Blues.

“Rodri has proven himself to be a hugely talented, young midfielder, who has all the attributes we are looking for," Begiristain said.

“He works hard defensively, makes himself available to receive the ball and uses it well when in possession.

“He is a perfect fit for Pep Guardiola’s team and we are confident he will be a success.”
