Rodri admits catching Arsenal will be ‘impossible’ if Manchester City do not improve quickly

Manchester City midfielder Rodri admits catching Arsenal in the Premier League title race will be “impossible” if the champions do not improve quickly.

Pep Guardiola’s side could not take advantage of the Gunners’ loss at Everton last time out by falling to defeat at Tottenham on Sunday.

As such, the gap remains at five points and Arsenal could extend that to eight should they beat Brentford on Saturday.

City are not in action until Sunday’s home meeting with Aston Villa and have little margin for error between now and the end of the season.

The champions have won only three of their last six games and have already lost on more occasions than during the entirety of last season.

After the defeat at Spurs, Guardiola insisted his team could not think of the title race and stressed their position meant they had to take the rest of the campaign on a game-by-game basis.

Rodri, meanwhile, told DAZN: “We are calm, we know that there is a lot left and we are going in the right direction. It is true that Arsenal have had an impressive first half of the season.

“Obviously, if they maintain that level and are capable of doing the same in the second half, it will be impossible.”
