Rodney McAree fires a warning after 'disappointing' Glentoran defeat

Rodney McAree didn't hold back in his assessment of Glentoran's 2-0 defeat at Larne.

After winning their last three games scoring 10 goals in the process the Glens went into the clash at Inver Park brimming with confidence.

But they were blown away by a rampant home side who took the game to their opponents and had it practically won by half time thanks to goals from Micheál Glynn and Lee Bonis.

McAree shuffled his pack in the second half taking off Jay Donnelly and Danny Purkis, who had netter five goals between them in the previous game against Portadown.

The visitors though still failed to impose themselves on the game much to McAree's frustration.

"For about 35 minutes Larne showed a hunger, desire and commitment which we didn't match on the night," said the Glens boss.

"I was extremely disappointed with our workrate, and that's the basics.

"You can be as good a football team or footballer as you want, but if you don't go out and tick the box of hard work first and foremost you give yourself an uphill task. Larne won the game in that first half hour.

"We did a little bit better in the second half, the subs that came on helped us, we got a little bit of a response.

"I thought we did a little bit better when Junior came on, I thought he did OK.

"Our deliveries into the box though were very lacklustre and very half-hearted.

"Ultimately it wasn't good enough and it's not acceptable.

"If we have any hunger or desire to do anything in terms of European football then it needs to be so much better than it was tonight."
