Rodgers in sharp 'you're looking for something' Celtic response to Atletico poser

Brendan Rodgers gave short shrift to a question on whether Atletico Madrid's alternative kit stunt will impact the Champions League clash against Celtic.

The La Liga side will wear a strip commemorating a win over Celtic back in 1974 in a match widely regarded as one of football's dirtiest-ever games.

Celtic's 1974 European Cup semi-final battle with the Spaniards at Parkhead became one of the most notorious games in the history of the club after Atletico had three players sent off and seven booked in a goalless draw in Glasgow, before the hosts won the return leg to qualify for the Final.

However, Rodgers shrugged off the suggestion that the strip - an exact replica of Atletico's from that night - would add any extra fire to the fixture.

In response to the question, Rodgers said: “Well, it will for you, probably. Clearly, you're looking for something.

"The game was 1974 and I was what? One? I’m aware of the game and I obviously know that football has changed since that time as well. So no, my focus is purely on this game."

On the match, he added: "We know tomorrow the stadium will be on fire. It will be an amazing atmosphere for us to be a part of.

"It's a fantastic team that we're playing against one of the best in the world. But we don't have to be the best team in the world to win. We just need to educate our pressure, play well and ride your luck a little bit as well.

"But hopefully everything will combine. With the supporters we can have a great night and certainly we'll be giving everything to get the result we want."
