Rodgers delivers verdict on importance of Ibrox trip after wrapping up title

Brendan Rodgers says Celtic's trip to Ibrox this weekend remains hugely important despite the fact they have already wrapped up the title.

The Parkhead side secured the Scottish Premiership championship with a 5-0 hammering of Dundee United on Saturday afternoon.

Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah both bagged braces after Ryan Strain's own goal opened the scoring half an hour in.

After winning their 55th league title, Celtic now turn their attention to Ibrox this weekend.

They travel to face Rangers for the final derby clash of the season, already champions.

The Ibrox club have won the previous two derbies, and have scored nine goals in their last three games against their city rivals.

Rodgers outlined the significance of the tie after his team's win over United at the weekend: "It's so important," he said.

"Rangers were very good in the first half when we played them at Celtic Park.

"We were too slow. The comfort in the game was not good. In the second half, we were much better. Celtic vs Rangers, no matter what it is, Rangers Celtic, it means everything.

"So we need to go and perform next week again. But we can get those messages through during the week."

While Celtic may feel confident going into the game, they will likely be without Jota at Ibrox.

The winger's season could be over, claims SunSport, with Rodgers and co awaiting confirmation over an injury that could see him out for several months.

He came off injured 35 minutes in at Tannadice over the weekend, and emerged at full-time with his knee in a brace and using crutches.
